Welcome to our school …
…a vibrant and happy educational environment at the heart of the community. We are delighted to have been recognised as one of the few all round outstanding schools in Oxfordshire.
We are a small village school in one of the most idyllic settings in the country. Our size is one of our greatest assets. It enables us to provide a nurturing, family atmosphere where all our pupils are valued as individuals and are taught according to their strengths and weaknesses, not just their age. We currently have 99 children on roll, with a Reception class of just 15 children and three mixed- aged classes of up to 30 children.
Set in the middle of one of the most beautiful and unspoilt villages in England, our school offers an idyllic and inspiring start to a child’s education.
Built in 1852, the school was enlarged in the 1920s to accommodate pupils from Little Tew. Now a Grade II listed building, it has three classrooms mixing old and new with high beamed ceilings and the latest interactive whiteboard technology, as well as separate, dedicated room for art and a well-used library.
In October 2007, we opened our new Foundation Stage Unit, The Ana Johnston Building, which is home to the Pre-School and Reception pupils, and also houses our state-of-the-art computer suite on the mezzanine floor. This area is used by the whole school.
Construction of an innovative extension to the Ana Johnston building has now been completed. This light and airy extension houses an additional classroom, cookery/activity room and small teaching space. On the roof of this partly submerged classroom we have a wonderful, all-weather sports’ pitch.
Our grounds are attractively landscaped, with a traditional playground including climbing equipment and slide; grassed areas for ball games; quiet areas with seating and our own garden where the children grow vegetables and flowers. The Foundation Stage unit has its own secure space for the youngest children to play safely. For sports we have our all-weather sports pitch; in addition we have the use of the excellent indoor and outdoor facilities at the Tew Centre, just a short walk from school.
